Here on the Hill is a Boston-based contra and folk trio featuring Tory Horner (center), Annie McDougall (left), and Rose Powell (right). Blending soaring twin fiddles with driving rhythm guitar, the band creates a bold, groove-centered sound rooted in New England tradition and alive with old-time tunes, modern gems, and original compositions. Since forming in the fall of 2024, Here On The Hill has quickly become a familiar presence on dance floors and in living rooms across the East Coast, bringing infectious energy and musical connection to communities from Georgia to Maine.
All three members share a deep love for the contra dance world, though they arrived there by different paths. Tory and Rose grew up immersed in the tradition as dancers and musicians, while Annie came to contra later and was immediately hooked after her very first dance in college. When Tory invited Rose and Annie to join together as a band, it felt like a natural meeting point for all three of them. The blend of lived experience and joyful discovery shapes the way Here on the Hill plays: clear phrasing and communication with callers, rhythmic lift for dancers, and an intuitive awareness of the room that allows each tune set to flow with the dancers organically.
As they continue to expand their reach into weekend events and festivals, Here On The Hill is excited to bring their joyful, dance-driven sound to new communities. For booking inquiries, videos, and upcoming dates, feel free to explore the site or get in touch directly -- they'd love to play for your dance or living room!
